Let's have some fun

Here are the photos from the Darby over the weekend. In the first one we are headed through cone #2.

Here we are headed through cone #18...

And here we are headed through gate A of obstacle #20---> the water hazard....

The course was just about 1 km in length. There were four obstacles #1, #6, #11 and #20, with 3 gates A, B & C, everything else was cones. Knocking a ball down off the cone is a 10 second penalty. You are judged on speed, but also precision since you don't want to knock any balls down.

So there are the pictures and here is the fun part. Tell me what you see me doing wrong?  Each picture has at least one or two things that I know of. You can click on them to enlarge them too.

Please try to keep it down to a loud roar!  It's supposed to be fun, remember?

Thanks Fern, there's a good start...

Come on people, don't be shy. It's all in the interest of learning, because honestly I didn't think I was doing anything wrong. At least not until someone pointed it out...

Yes, please, educate those of us who know NOTHING about competitive driving...or much of anything about driving.

But, OMGosh...Kat looks a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e!!!

It might have felt like it took forever to get rolling on the little guy...but you have accomplished a lot with him.

Still waiting for Phaedra to pop in.... but here's a hint. Look closely at my hands.

Kat has really come a looong way in a short time. He is an awesome pony in that respect. The guy in the background in the first shot- Gary Gang- he did the safety check and corrected the harness issues (none of which are in the pictures!) before we got going. Super nice guy and he too had a lot of nice things to say about the Kat man...

Maybe not looping the lines over your finger?? Seems you've got the line wrapped or looped over your index fingers...but like the others I'm not a driving expert so I don't know! Just doesn't seem...right haha!!

I don't know SQUAT about driving, but the whole thing looks like an absolute BLAST, and Kat looks like he's enjoying himself, too. :)

GOD he's cute.

SO... in driving as in riding, should you work on keeping your hands "organized," and close together? Should there be a straight line from elbow to bit, and also not move your hands the way you are going, but rather squeeze the hand to turn?

I have NO idea.

The way to learn is to make mistakes. ( Sitting here in the wilds of Minnesota with an internet air cards with limited hours makes life fun) I would suggest watching driving videos or you-tube on line to see how to hold and handle the lines and the whip. Not being snarky but maybe a smaller groom?? He takes up a lot of seat!!! I will say Kat looks like he is interested and moving well. Have fun!
